Product Overview

3M Novec 1710 Electronic Grade Coating is a high-concentration, single-component fluorinated polymer solution using 3M Novec 7100DL Engineered Fluid as the solvent, characterized by low viscosity and low surface tension. Designed for moisture and corrosion protection of printed circuit boards and electronic components, it dries to form an ultra-thin, transparent coating with excellent hydrophobic and oleophobic properties. Beyond direct use as a protective coating, 1710 can also serve as a concentrate to replenish solid content in application baths or be blended with other materials to create customized coating systems. The product requires no curing, offers easy application, and features strong environmental and safety credentials including non-flammability, zero ozone depletion potential, low toxicity, low global warming potential, RoHS compliance, and U.S. EPA VOC exemption.

Physicochemical Properties Analysis

1.Stable High-Solids System

Novec 1710 has a density of 1.5 g/ml (@23°C), a boiling point of 61°C, and no flash point by closed-cup test, ensuring safe handling. With a viscosity of 4.3 cP, it is suitable for dip, brush, and selective dispensing processes, achieving handling capability within two minutes at room temperature to support efficient production.

 

2.Well-Balanced Dry Film Performance

The cured coating thickness can be adjusted from 0.1 to 10 microns and exhibits excellent thermal stability, maintaining protective performance after 24 hours at 175°C, with a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 44.5°C. Static contact angles of 105° (water) and 65° (hexadecane) demonstrate strong dual-phobic properties. Electrically, it offers a dielectric constant of 3.2 (@1kHz), dissipation factor of 0.002, and dielectric strength of 2000 V/mil, suitable for most electronic insulation applications.
